Part 1: Options for Activities of the Asia Forests Partnership

Ongoing or scheduled activities under category 2 of the AFP
- Gathering of lessons learned and policy measures for controlling of illegal logging/ for
rehabilitating degraded forests/ for preventing forest fires. (being conducted by AFP
partners and CIFOR.)
- Sharing of satellite imagery and its analysis as a basic tool for forest management.
(being conducted by AFP partners and CIFOR.)
- Compilation of a database of training materials, tools, and facilities in the Asia
region. This could include detailed information on training opportunities, courses, costs,
accommodation, and other practical aspects and serve as an on-line tool to promote
cooperation in training. (GoJ, etc.)
- Cooperation in the compilation of improved trade statistics and information on trade to
help combat illegal logging. (GoJ, GoI, etc.)
- Coordinated support and shared lessons learning for the monitoring, assessment and
reporting on the implementation of the IPF/IFF proposals for action. The outcome of this
activity could also be reported to the UNFF. (GoJ, GoI, etc)
- Technical information exchange on forest resources monitoring to build capacity to
implement work under the various frameworks such as criteria and indicator processes,
Forest Resources Assessment, FLEG, Global Forest Watch and others. (WRI, GoI, GoJ, CIFOR,
TNC.)
