1. Title of the Work Plan

Regional Workshop on Promoting Potential of Small Scale Tropical Plantation with Local Community Participation

2. Main objectives of the Work Plan

To promote sustainable economic and social development amongst regional partners in a collaborative effort on the development of small scale tropical plantation through Regional Workshop on promoting potential of small scale tropical plantation with local community participation. The regional workshop would also be in a way of exchange regional experience and regional visits including training.

3. Expected results

Conduct the Regional Workshop on promoting potential of small scale tropical plantation with local community participation;

Publication and dissemination of regional workshop on the following critical issues:

a.    What are local communities participation in the plantation forest development;

b.    What are the roles of plantation forest development in the livelihood and well being of local/rural communities?

c.    Why local communities/farmers do or do not prefer to plant certain species?

d.    What are the opportunities and challenges for silvicultural modification of plantation trees and non trees for desired type of timber and non timber products?

e.    Fast growing versus market value and non timber?

f.    Industrial processing and utilization of certain specification/applications?

g.    Building regional support mechanisms for networking arrangements.

4. Modalities/Procedures

1.    Exchange experience and visit between partners on small scale forest plantation development;

2.    Conduct/convene a regional workshop and training on small scale forest plantation development with local community participation;

3.    Published and disseminate the results of the workshop

5. Time frame

6 months

6. Arrangements for potential funding

Funding requires for implementation the project is expected to be around US $87,000 Main financial supports are expected from donor partners e.g. Japan, EU, USDA, etc. Whilst, contribution are also expected coming from each partner.

7. Partners involved

Governments: Indonesia, Japan (expected), ASEAN Member Countries (expected), others to be identified
Intergovernmental Organizations: CIFOR (expected), others to be identified
Civil Society: to be identified
