Q&A

Dr. Freezailah, MTTC
Offers MTTC to host small consultation group for discussion on proposed work plans discussed in working group “Establishing Reliable Production and Trade Chain and Coordination of International Efforts”.

Dr. Mubariq Achmad, WWF Indonesia
Is it true that decentralization work plan is separate of model forest work. Warns that if this is the case, this might be a dangerous road.

Answer Doris Capistrano
Presentation on model forest in working group was not a working plan, but an informative presentation. Current decentralization Work Plan a way to follow up from Interlaken Workshop in Asia. The shape remains to be determined, but in all likelihood discussion workshop in September 2005. Some of the study sights might also be model forests, but it is still open and a work in progress.

Dr. Mubariq Achmad
Stresses again, that the decentralization issue should never be separated from model forest.

Dr. Dicky Simorangkir
Thought about the same issue with regards to Tropenbos’ component under the Dutch Initiative.

Indonesia volunteers to be a member of ad hoc working group

Representative of US informs that US was originally not in favor of the establishment of such a secretariat, believing that members could work together as partners. What would be procedure, if a partner would want to join at a later stage?

Mr. Mohammad Oemar:
Now is the time for nominations. Only entities such as countries or organizations can become members of ad hoc working group. Working group will at least include all four leading partners.

Other volunteers of members of ad hoc working groups:

  • Japan
  • Philippines
  • CIFOR
  • TNC

Representative of Vie Nam
Paragraph 12 CIFOR plays major role and continuation of that commitment could be made clearer in paragraph 12. Also Information-Sharing Secretariat should be written in capital letters.

Dr. Doris Capistrano
Thankful for the recognition of the work CIFOR has played and is willing to continue to play this role as long as it remains within CIFOR’s mandate. CIFOR is also hoping for clearer terms of references and we should keep in mind that depending on the terms of reference there might be another more appropriate institution.

Mr. Hiroshi Kudo, Japan
Japan will continue same level of support for Information-sharing secretariat for next year.
