Working Group 1: Partners and Membership

Discuss, review and suggest improvements on:

  • issues related to partners and "membership" in AFP
  • decision making mechanisms and structure of the AFP
  • role of focal points of AFP
  • how to encourage more active participation of partners

  • No limits but keep scope realistic
  • All partners equal
  • No specific requirements to become partners
  • Non-government partners major advantage, but disappointing participation from South NGOs
  • Members must perceive advantage to membership

  • Harmonisation with other initiatives
  • Complement, not compete
  • Sub-regional action to fill specific needs (e.g. where common border issue)

  • Some support for "secretariat-lite"
