The Center for International Forestry Research is carrying out research on fire in Sumatra and Kalimantan. The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations Forestry Department's work on forest fires can be found. Global Fire Monitoring Center a comprehensive global resources center. Fire-related information of the International Tropical Timber Organization includes its guidelines on fire management in tropical forests. IFFM - Integrated Forest Fire Management Project by GTZ and MoF offers most detailed information on fire in East Kalimantan including Hot spots maps, weekly fire reports, readiness levels for the province and fire danger ratings. Project FireFight South East Asia, a joing WWF-IUCN project is seeking to secure the essential policy reform at national and regional level within South East Asia that provides a legislative and economic basis for controlling harmful anthropogenic forest fires. (Project ended 2002). South Sumatra Forest Fire Management Project aids and facilitates the establishment of a coordinated system of fire management at province, district and sub district and village level throughout South Sumatra, in which all involved stakeholders, including the private sector, work together to reduce the negative impact of fire on the natural and socio-economic environment. The Southeast Asia Fire and Haze Information Centre provides a database of fire-and-haze management activities in Southeast Asia, on-line references on fire and haze issues and online discussion opportunities. |
