  • Executive Summary of AFP Dialogue 2011
    Illegal logging and deforestation issues must extend beyond the forestry sector if drivers of deforestation are to be tackled, and opportunities harnessed in the sector to mitigate climate change and contribute to reducing food insecurity. The cross-border issue of illegal logging has brought many countries to engage in bilateral or multilateral negotiations. Some have signed Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs), while others are still negotiating. Among others, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) have also brought the issue of illegal logging into their agendas.

  • Asia Forest Partnership Dialogue 2011

    The Asia Forest Partnership Dialogue 2011 will be held in Beijing. The Dialogue will discuss progress made since the Ministerial Declaration on Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (FLEG) in Bali in 2001 by bringing key forestry stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region together to provide exchange of experience and information from 10 years working with FLEG. In addition, the Dialogue will be an opportunity to explore ideas and perspectives for promoting a legal scheme for building markets for responsible timber over the next 10 years.
